The Louisiana State University Field School will take place this summer in Florida. Instruction will cover basic excavation techniques, artifact analysis, and mapping.

LSU students visited the Avery Island Salt Mine Valley, Marsh House Slave Quarters, The Laboratory, Marsh Sugar House, the Jungle Gardens, and current Tabasco sauce factory. The trip was supervised by Dr. David Palmer, archaeologist at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, and Shane Bernard, McIlhenny Company historian and curator of the Avery Island archives.
G&A undergraduate Margeaux Murray joined an international crew of archaeologists at the ancient seaside settlement of Samanco (600-200 BCE), located in the desert 250 miles north of Lima, Peru.
Rebecca “Becky” Hood, an anthropology undergraduate in the Department of Geography and Anthropology at LSU, won first place at the LSU Undergraduate Research Conference 2012 for oral presentations in Social Sciences.
