State of the Coast is hosted every two years by the Council for the Restoration of Coastal Louisiana and brings together experts from coastal sciences, engineering, social sciences, and the humanities. Coastal specialists from 33 states were among the 1000 plus attendees. Special guest speakers included New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu.

Professor Craig Colten traveled to Florianopolis, Brazil during the Thanksgiving break to address the Third International Workshop on Environmental History. He discussed his research on community resilience to a group of scholars from Brazil, Columbia, Argentina, Portugal, and the U.S.
Dr. Craig Colten recently received a grant to extend ongoing research on community resilience along the Gulf Coast. This project will supplement an existing project that is being carried out by LSU geographers in collaboration with specialists from University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
